When a tea sommelier sources tea, they travel all over the world to many different producers to taste their teas in an interactive way. A professional tea tasting, otherwise known as a "Cupping," from the Traveler's Teahouse brings this worldly experience directly to the comfort of your own home or venue. It involves a brief information session about the tea and its farmers, the sampling of up to 5 teas, sensory evaluations of the feeling, aroma, and taste of the leaves, and cultural ambiance.
The cupping involves specialized porcelain tasting cups that will be provided by Traveler's Teahouse. The only thing that is needed at the location is a heat/electrical source. The purpose of the cupping is to fully experience the natural qualities of the leaves by utilizing all 5 senses. You will walk away with a deeper knowledge and appreciate of the art of tea by the end of this immersive experience. Please see the Tea List below to get an idea of what you may want to try. Currently, tea tastings may only accommodate a maximum of 5 people.
A traditional cupping follows a specific procedure. First, you will be briefed on the geographical and cultural contributions from the terroirs. Then, you will take time to engage with the leaves as guided by a sensory evaluation sheet. This includes your own personal notes on touch, smell, taste, and visuals of the leaves. You will learn how to set up the porcelain cups and "flip" them to reveal the infused leaves. During the tasting, you will be supplied with a comprehensive aroma/tasting guide to aid you in placing a name for the sensations that you experience.
In the true spirit of the Traveler's Teahouse, you may combine a tea tasting with a Tarot Reading or Tea Leaf Reading for all participants for an additional cost. These spiritual advisory methods provide a spiritually-tinged flare to an already immersive experience and goes the extra mile to dazzle you.
All teas in this section are produced in the Western Ilam Region of Nepal. The estates are women-led and tended with great care. The terroir is quite misty and elevated, which results in pleasantly aromatic teas with delicate flavors.
